Terror attacks not affecting UNIJOS –VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos,
Plateau State, Prof. Hayward Mufuyai, has said that the insurgency in parts of the North is not affecting the admission into the institution.

The university, he said, was experiencing peace and tranquillity.

He stated this when he led a delegation from the school to the palace of the Olowo of Owoland, Oba Victor Olateru Olagbegi.

The monarch is the new chancellor of thevuniversity.

The Pro-Chancellor of the university, Chief Don Etiebet, was part of the delegation.

According to Mafuyai, UNIJOS is the third preferred university in the north despite the incessant terror attacks on some parts of the region.

“By JAMB’s statistics of the last admission, University of Jos is the ninth on the list of most preferred institution in the entire federation, and in the northern part of the country, we arevthe third most preferred after the University of Ilorin and the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,” he said.

The don noted that though there were reported cases of attacks in the host state, UNIJOS had never recorded any of terror attack on campus in the past 40 years of its existence.

However, he said, the institution faced the problem of inadequate funding like others in the country.

“We have very high expectations for better days ahead due to the calibre of people who form the institution’s Council because we know that the experiences they have from the public and private sector will bear positively on the governance of the institution for best practices so that we can deliver more for the country,” the VC added.

In his remarks, Etiebet said the appointment of the monarch was well deserved, considering his achievements in the Faculty of Law of the University of Lagos and as a Chancellor in the University of Benin.
